On 17th March 2022 I’ll be turning 60. To celebrate, I’ve decided to ride from Melbourne to Sydney, via the ‘back roads’ that include the mountains and Thredbo.

You can read more about each charity on their respective websites and more about why I think these are such great causes in two separate articles attached to this page.
You may be shocked to learn that I can’t just jump on my bike and hope to complete this ride. Being slightly aged and decrepit, I need to train first. I started my training program on 1st September 2021.
Already, six weeks in as I write this, the novelty of ‘being back on the bike’ has worn off. But my core motivation over the coming weeks and months as I gradually ramp up my training distances is to do something of substance for these two great causes.
Previously I described myself in a business context, but I’m also a husband, father and grandfather. I know how many good things happen when people ride bikes and how important it is to make cycling accessible to our children and grandchildren. This is a key element of both these charities, so they align perfectly with my personal goal of helping to make both Australia and elsewhere a better place for our kids and grandkids to ride.
I can only do this with your help. I’ve not done a ride like this in the past and have no plans to repeat this in the future. So I’m only asking for your support once!
I’m paying for all expenses so 100% of any amount that you choose to donate will be going directly to the two charities.
Thanks very much for your generous support!
