Bicycle Mechanic
Omafiets is looking for an experienced bike mechanic to join our workshop.
Who are we?
Omafiets is Sydney’s premier bike shop for bikepacking, touring, commuting and cargo bikes. We have about 15 staff, and we’ve been in business for 11 years.
What’s the role?
Your typical day might look like this:
- Arrive five minutes early and make yourself a coffee
- Speak to the workshop manager about what job to start first
- Service a Brompton folding bike that needs a new chain and rear sprockets
- Convert someone’s handlebars from drop to flat bars, shorten the hoses and bleed the brakes
- Take a phone call from someone who wants to know what sort of brake pads they need to buy
- Change a couple of inner tubes
- Have lunch at the Japanese place around the corner (it’s really good)
- Build a dynamo wheel and install some lights
- Service a road bike with AXS
- Troubleshoot an e-bike problem, lodge a warranty claim for a faulty battery
- Knock off for the day, satisfied in the knowledge that you’ve kept Sydney’s riders rolling.
What are we looking for?
- You’re an experienced bike mechanic with industry experience
- You’re an excellent communicator
- You enjoy working as part of a team, learning from and sharing your experience with other mechanics
- You’re open to different ways of doing things, and happy to take direction from the workshop manager
- You love riding bikes, and bicycles are your main form of transport
- You love problem solving, and can keep your cool when setbacks occur
- You’re proficient at using computers (to use our point-of-sale and workshop systems)
We are a queer-friendly workplace, and we would encourage women and gender-diverse people to apply.
What are we offering?
- Full-time, Monday to Friday hours (8am-4pm)
- A team of friendly mechanics
- A fun and challenging work environment
- A well-equipped workshop, about to undergo renovations (you’re welcome to make requests!)
- A competitive package based on your skills and experience
