Shanren – Innovation Meets Value

Established in 1986, Bicycle Parts Wholesale (originally Incomex Trading) caters to the independent bicycle retailer, with warehouse facilities located in Melbourne and Brisbane for fast and efficient nationwide delivery.

They aim to provide a diverse range of parts and accessories that are supported by extremely knowledgeable and experienced employees, many of whom have been working with the company from the early days.

Covering everything from custom wheel building to scooters, professional-grade Unior tools to brake cables and a broad selection of general P&A, Bicycle Parts Wholesale serves as a one-stop-shop for independent bike shops.

More recently they’ve taken on the distribution of Shanren within Australia; a brand that packs in a whole lot of technology at some extremely sharp price-points.

Shanren specialises in GPS cycle computers and lights where they’ve adopted many innovative features.

The Shanren Raz Pro tail light is a great example. It’s best described as a ‘smart tail light’, because it incorporates a range of features not seen on a traditional light.

To start with, the Raz Pro is programmable via an app that lets you customise the colour of the light, change the flash mode and intensity as well as a host of other clever settings.

The light can be set to flash a bright white beam if you hit a bump to warn following riders and will get brighter when you slow down to serve as a brake light. The light intensity can also self-adjust depending on the ambient light level to extend the run-time.

When riding with other Shanren Raz Pro users, the lights can automatically ‘sync’ to flash in unison, increasing the visibility of your bunch.

Beyond these high-tech features, the Raz Pro weighs just 20g, is waterproof, comes with a neat magnetic charger and will run for around 46 hours in the slow-flash mode. Retailing for around $60 (depending on the mounting option) the Raz Pro is sharply priced too.

Retailing for $150, the Shanren Miles is extremely well priced for a GPS cycle computer, yet it’s absolutely packed with features. Despite its slim profile, the Miles has a 2.1 inch backlit screen and offers 25 hours of run-time.

It features ANT+ connectivity to link with various third-party heart rate and power measuring devices. Bluetooth allows for data transfer (if you’re uploading to Strava for example) and Shanren offers a range of speed, heart rate and cadence sensors for indoor training applications.

Possibly the most unique feature is the built-in power meter; which interpolates data (speed, acceleration, gradient, mass of rider/bike and so on) to estimate your power output—something that really differentiates the Miles from the competition.

Shanren even makes arm-mounted heart rate measuring band. Fitting to your upper forearm, bicep or tricep, the Beat 15 retails for $70 and presents an alternative to chest-strap heart rate monitors.

It utilises a high-precision optical sensor and a proprietary algorithm to measure heart rate, which is transferred to cycling computers or gym equipment via BLE or ANT+ connections. It can even pair directly with a smartphone with the data viewed using the Shanren app.
