Not Just a New eBike, but a New Category!

Previously we’ve had mountain bikes and we’ve had cargo bikes, but now there’s the Tern Orox, the world’s first adventure cargo bike.

“Six years ago, we introduced the GSD with the belief that a compact and easy-to-ride bike capable of carrying passengers and cargo would get people out of their cars and onto bikes,” stated Josh Hon, Tern Team Captain. “We were right, and we love seeing all the amazing things people are doing with the GSD in crowded cities. But we also realized that there are plenty of places people want to go that are unpaved. And they want to bring their gear. For those trips, we made the Orox.”

Uniquely, the Orox is set up to handle multiple wheel sizes, with customers able to choose between 27.5 x 4” or 29 x 3” wheels, or own both and easily swap between the commute and the weekend away. All of the components specified are top quality. Perhaps most importantly for a potentially heavy laden bike riding on steep terrain, it has four piston 203 mm Magura hydraulic disc brakes.

When fitted with dual 800Wh batteries the Orox has a range of more than 300 kilometres. It’s built for heavy duty, capable of carrying total weight (including bike and rider) of 210kg on road and 180kg off road. Everything from the tyres through to the rims, spokes, hub, frame and forks and all other components are built for strength and durability.

Needless to say, all of this bulletproof spec makes for a heavy bike, but the Orox is an e-bike, so it can climb hills and haul loads with ease.

The Orox features a Bosch Performance Line CX motor which drives either a 14 speed Rohloff Speedhub or a 1×12 Shimano Deore XT derailleur.

With nothing else like it in the market, Australian dealers can stock the Orox with confidence that they’ll achieve full retail margin – a refreshing point of difference in today’s tough bicycle market.
