Fast Turnarounds and Even Faster Wheels

Cycle Motion is an industrious wholesaler and wheel-building business.
With two Holland wheel building machines at its headquarters and two skilled mechanics, Cycle Motion is capable of very quick turnaround times and exceptional quality control.
That helps ensure mechanics Rodney Gethin and Duncan Erasmus are in high demand and consistently hard at work on a variety of wheel builds, ranging from a staple of generic wheels to high-end combinations and Cycle Motion’s own Goose range.
Cycle Motion’s recent success stories include a wheel the team has affectionately named ‘The Goose with Boost’.
The wheel comes in both 27.5 or 29er sizes, using Cycle Motion’s own Goose Rim, which is eyeleted, tubeless-ready, and features a robust 30mm internal width. This rim is laced with Pillar spokes to a high-quality sealed-bearing Boost hub which has 3.5 degrees of engagement.
‘The Goose with Boost’ wholesales for $260 for a pair – $150 for a rear or $110 for a front wheel.
In addition to the many budget options offered by Cycle Motion, it also supplies a line of performance wheels under the company’s Rocket brand. Its recent additions include the Nighthawk, a 38mm deep carbon gravel wheel, and the Blackbird, a 50mm deep road wheel set.
Both builds use Pillar’s renowned Wing 21 spokes, which are butted and bladed to provide greater elasticity and fatigue resistance.
The Rocket-branded hubs on both wheelsets use ABEC5 TPI bearings, which are among the best quality available to help hubs continue to roller faster for longer.
Both the Nighthawk and Blackbird wheelsets wholesale for $950 – $550 for a rear and $400 for a front.
Cycle Motion supplies many of its own products but is also a distributor for Ryde rim, Alex Rims, Pillars spokes and Funn hubs and rims.
Pillar spokes have been a mainstay for Cycle Motion since their inception. Pillar’s wide range of spokes have been very popular among bike shops, artisan wheel builders and end consumers. The stainless-steel source wire used by Pillar is among the best in the world, its light weight belying its exceptional resilience under load.
Ryde has specialised in rim production since the 1950s and has entrenched itself as a world leader in aluminium wheels. Established in the Netherlands in 1908, it has amassed considerable experience working with many of the world’s top wheel and bike brands.
By comparison, Taiwan’s Alex Rims is a relative newcomer but has quickly built a reputation and presence on the international stage. Its wheels are tested and refined in collaboration with World Class races with top professional athletes in all facets of cycling: from pro road teams to Extreme Freeride and downhill riders, MTB pro racers, slopestyle professionals to BMX, freestyle and jumping pros.
