Dr Chris Leatt Brings Unique Expertise to All Leatt Products

In just 20 years Leatt has grown from an idea in one man’s head to the world’s leading MTB and Moto protective equipment company. Of course it takes many successful elements to build a global brand, but at the core of Leatt’s rise has been relentless, award winning product innovation, driven by the unique expertise of its founder, Dr Chris Leatt, who is an experienced orthopaedic surgeon, and neurosurgery registrar – with a passion for motorcycle racing on the side!
After witnessing the death of a friend in a motorcycle race, Dr Leatt was highly motivated to use his unique expertise as both a surgeon and a racer to reduce the risk to others, including his moto racing son! Ultimately this lead not only to the Leatt product range, but the Leatt Lab, personally overseen by Dr Leatt, where new protective technologies are created and tested to world’s best practice standards.
The upcoming 2025 season will see further world firsts in MTB protective gear. Here are two outstanding new technologies developed inhouse by Leatt.
360 Degree Turbine Technology
For years you’ve probably sold helmets with MIPS technology that offers rotational protection between the rider’s head and the helmet’s foam lining. Leatt’s new 360 degree turbine technology goes a step further – lowering both rotational acceleration by up to 40% and linear G-forces by up to 30%. This combination lowers the risk of concussion significantly.
Leatt does this by fitting a number of small blue disc shaped turbines, constructed from an energy absorbing material, throughout the helmet’s interior lining. This, when added to a host of other innovative safety and everyday functional features, makes Leatt helmets the world leaders.
ReaFlex
ReaFlex is a gel infused foam designed to absorb impact and vibration. ReaFlex is already available in Australia in Leatt’s body armour, and limb protection. At Eurobike 2024 Leatt launched its expansion into selected componentry lines including handlebar grips. These will be arriving soon in Australia. In Leatt’s new grips, the ReaFlex protective material is sandwiched between a plastic sleeve that is locked onto the handlebars and the outer textured rubber grip.
Leatt’s extensive product range is exclusively distributed in Australia by Bikecorp. For more information visit www.bikecorp.com.au or call 03 9518 5400.
