Leading NZ Retailer Adds New Store in Wellington

NZ retailer Evo Cycles opened its 29th showroom recently and is already foreshadowing the creation of its 30th outlet.

The country’s largest family-owned chain of bike stores launched its latest showroom at Wellington Central on 28th May, maintaining its exponential growth since its original store opened in Waikato in 2007.

“The 30th Evo Cycles showroom will not be far away, as we have plans to move into other under-serviced regions and towns across New Zealand in both the North and South Islands,” the company declares in a statement.

Accountant Sam Fletcher established the first Evo store in the midst of the global financial crisis and, in the early years, often personally delivered bikes to customers after hours.

After steadily incorporating further stores during the first 10 years, the business added 10 outlets in 2018 and 2019 as it pursued its mission to be the “number one bicycle organisation in the world”.

While NZ’s nationwide lockdown in 2020 brought a momentary pause to Evo’s roll-out of additional store, it prompted the organisation to growth in another way.

It introduced a contactless home delivery service, as “lockdown gave us other ways to engage with our customers”.

Once the lockdown was over, Evo opened nine more retail outlets that year and, as the global pandemic continued, the businesses incorporated its 26th, 27th and 28th stores last year.

The business stocks over 250 bike brands, including Trek, Giant, Liv, Kona, GT, Polygon, and Reid.
