Specialized to Donate $150,000 for Bushfire Relief

Each year Specialized produce a limited edition Tour Down Under Collection.  But this year’s media release included a remarkably generous donation announcement.

The release explained, “This year’s collection has been inspired by the speed and colour of the Australian Budgie – an Allez Sprint Disc, Evade and Prevail helmets, S-Works 7 Shoes, even socks and a cap.

“As this noble little bird, and much of Australia’s wildlife, suffers from devastating bushfires, Specialized is donating US$100,000 (A$147,058 at time of publication), to WIRES the Australian Wildlife Rescue Organization, who are working tirelessly to rescue and care for wildlife affected by the fires. With fires still burning, many more animals are in desperate need of help.”

Meanwhile, Specialized have also announced that their Specialized ANGi Helmet crash sensors can now be enabled with Wahoo Elemnt GPS bike computers.

“Safety has always been our priority and we want it to be built into every ride,” said Director of Specialized Digital, Chris Zenthoefer. “Since the day we launched ANGi, we’ve been working on ways to make using it as seamless as possible. Our collaboration with Wahoo Fitness is a major step in that direction.”

After the one-time initial setup, with their phone in their pocket and the Ride App in the background, the rider can press start on their ELEMNT GPS bike computer and gently shake their ANGi. The bike computer will communicate with the Ride App to enable ANGi and send a ride start alert to the rider’s emergency contacts.

If ANGi detects a potential crash, the countdown timer will display on the bike computer. In the event the rider is OK and doesn’t need to call for help, they can disable the timer it from there.
