Two More E-Bike Ventures for Porsche

German performance car manufacturer Porsche has further escalated its involvement in the bicycle industry, launching two ventures his month as it seeks to launch a new generation of Porsche electric bikes from the middle of this decade.

It has partnered with Dutch company Ponooc Investment B.V. to create Porsche eBike Performance GmbH, based in Ottobrunn near Munich, and the Stuttgart-based P2 eBike GmbH – powered by Porsche.

Porsche eBike Performance GmbH will develop electric drive systems for two-wheelers, including motors, batteries and the necessary software for connectivity solutions.

It will be headed by the former CEO of Porsche Lifestyle GmbH & Co. Jan Becker as chairman.

The venture will focus on developing and producing particularly powerful e-bike drive systems under the Porsche brand name.

The electric drive systems will be used in Porsche e-bikes, as well as in the products of other brands.

In recent months, Porsche has acquired stakes in several companies in the e-bike segment, including Munich company Fazua which has been a pioneer in compact and lightweight drive systems.

It increased its stake in the company from 20% to 100% in June and will now merge Fazua into Porsche eBike Performance GmbH.

Porsche also has a stake in high-tech Croatian e-bike brand Greyp and the two companies collaborated to create the awarded Cyklær bike, which uses the Fazua drive system and features integrated front and rear cameras.

Independent of the joint venture, Porsche is continuing to work with long-standing partner Rotwild on its current e-bike models. In March 2021, the company launched its interpretation of exclusive electric bikes with the Porsche eBike Sport and the Porsche eBike Cross.

P2 eBike GmbH, assigned the task of developing the next Porsche e-bikes, is led by Moritz Failenschmid, who is also managing director at Focus Bikes.
