Better Formulas Drive Beta Fuel Popularity

Science in Sport’s newest nutrition range, its Beta Fuel Dual Source Energy Gel, had a perfect launch when multiple Grand Tour winner Chris Froome used it to fuel his memorable 80km solo breakaway victory in the 2018 Giro d’ Italia.

Much of that demand can be attributed to Beta Fuel’s market leading formula, which enables users to access carbohydrate with greater efficiency and at a much faster rate.

The gel’s maltodextrin to fructose ratio of 1:0.8 increases the percentage of ingested carbohydrate that is oxidised to 74%, compared to 62% for the more standard 2:1 ratio.

As a result, users can take in up to 120 grams of carbohydrate per hour, significantly higher than the standard rate of 60-90 grams using other energy supplements.

Each Beta Fuel gel sachet includes 40g of carbohydrate, while the industry standard for gels is typically 20 to 25 grams.

The 1:0.8 ratio also helps reduce the sensations and other symptoms of stomach fullness when compared with a ratio of 2:1, including performance debilitating gastrointestinal irritations that can be caused by sports drinks and gels.

SiS’s Beta Fuel + nootropics takes it a step further by combining the Beta Fuel Dual Energy Source Gel’s 40g of carbohydrate with 200 milligrams of caffeine, 250mg Cognizin Citicoline, one gram of the amino acid L-taurine and 200mg of Theanine. In combination, these ingredients boost mental performance during physical exertion, while reducing the ‘jitters’ that can be experienced when using caffeine on its own.

Scientifically Proven Over Many Years

SiS was established in 1992 and, while many sports nutrition brands have come and gone, the London-based company has been developing its products over more than 30 years.

That long-term development of products and the company’s enduring reign as an industry leader have led to partnerships with many of the world’s top sports associations and clubs, including USA Swimming, the English Institute of Sport and Manchester United.

While the brand gained an initial foothold in Australia through cycling and triathlon, it now has partnerships with a wide variety of elite sporting organisations, including several AFL and A League clubs, the Hockeyroos and Sailing Australia.
