Brookvale Bike Factory is located in the heart of Sydney’s affluent Northern Beaches region. It’s one of the largest, longest established and most successful independent bike shops in the entire region.

“We’ve been in business for over 30 years,” recalled second generation owner Andrew Taylor. We started out as Favourite Cycles in Manly in 1993, then we opened Brookvale Bike Factory in 1999.”

Thanks to astutely purchasing their premises when moving, Brookvale Bike Factory enjoys an enviable level of local recognition, having now been prominently located for 24 years on Pittwater Road, which is the main shopping and transport road for the entire region.

“We have a really strong mountain bike background because of our proximity to Manly Dam and all the other fantastic northern beaches mountain bike trails,” Andrew continued. “We’ve got a really good crew of hard core mountain bikers who come in here. But we’ve also got a strong connection to the local triathlon club, so we’ve got a good network of triathletes, plus road racers, that we service as well.

“We don’t just have a strong high-end business. We also do a lot of kids’ bikes and family bikes really well. We’re 90% Trek. We do a little bit with GT Bicycles as well.”

The spacious, well-presented store trades on two levels, a main floor and mezzanine, with their workshop integrated into the main floor of the store.

It’s via the workshop that an opportunity has opened for a high level mechanic / workshop manager to join the Brookvale Bike Factory team.

“We currently have two full time mechanics, plus casuals,” Andrew said. “We do lots of higher end servicing, including full strip and rebuilds. We also do lots of middle level servicing including chain, cassette, drivetrain. We do a lot of disc brake work. We do some suspension work in-house, but for the more specialist jobs we generally send our suspension work externally to SRAM or the Mountain Bike Suspension Centre.

“Safety is our biggest priority here. We pride ourselves on the quality of our workmanship. We’re about being as thorough as we can be.”

Given the large volume of high-end bikes that Brookvale Bike Factory both sells and services and their discerning enthusiast client base, Andrew is happy to pay industry-leading rates for the right person. Specifically in the $80k to $90k range of base salary, depending upon the applicant’s level of experience and skill set, plus a negotiable bonus structure based on realistic targets achieved. There’s also potential for future career advancements.

The successful applicant must have a minimum of 5-8 years’ experience in a professional bicycle workshop or retail bicycle store with genuine skill, knowledge and experience working on high end bicycles from the major brands and expert technical knowledge working with product from major component manufacturers such as Shimano, SRAM, Fox and Rockshox.

Brookvale Bike Factory is certainly not your average suburban bike shop. Last Year Trek awarded BBF their coveted Retailer of the Year award.

Owner Andrew Taylor has over 30 years’ experience in the business, working full time in the store. He is offering the successful applicant a complete support network, including ongoing business and technical training opportunities, expert financial management to Chartered Accountant level and a substantial marketing budget to drive growth.
