Patrick Jonker Joins TEBCO as SA Rep
Adelaide, SA
One of Australia’s highest general classification finishers at the Tour de France, South Australia’s bike industry veteran Patrick Jonker, has been appointed as the State’s sales agent for TEBCO.
The Melbourne-based brand confirmed last month it has appointed Patrick, who has just clocked up four decades working in the bike industry.
He was born into the industry, the son of a professional bike rider, and started road racing at the age of 13.
Patrick began working at The Complete Cycle, in the southern Adelaide coastal suburb of Port Noarlunga, the following year and remained there for three years until he had earned enough money to fly to Paris to pursue a road cycling career.
He raced on the international stage for 18 years and in 1996 finished 12th overall in the Tour de France, as a member of the Spanish ONCE team. It was his highest placing from five starts at the world’s premier grand tour and still puts him in exclusive company among Australia’s leading GC contenders.
His achievements included winning the Dutch national road championships in 1998 and the Tour Down Under in 2004, his final season, along with representing Australia at the 1992 and 1996 Olympics.
Since 2013 Patrick has been a full time sales representative for BikeSportz. This relationship is continuing, in addition to the TEBCO role.
