Pillar for Dependable Performance

Pillar has a long history as an OE spoke manufacturer but in recent times they’ve redirected their focus to develop and refine their aftermarket range. With a gaping hole in the local market, Dirt Works Australia seized the opportunity to partner with Pillar and they now stock an expansive range of spokes to suit all manner of applications.

Most aftermarket Pillar models are made from Sandvik T302 stainless steel wire; it’s the same Swedish factory that supplies some other ‘big name’ spoke brands.

Pillar employs a range of unique and innovative designs that are tailor made for specific applications. Specialist solutions include their PSR head, which features localised reinforcement right on the spoke head for added durability without unnecessary weight—this technology is utilised throughout the Pillar range.

The new eMAX spoke utilises a single butted design that tapers from 12g at the J-bend to 13g along its remaining length. It is ideal for hub-driven ebikes and cargo bikes that require a 2.6mm 12g head while tapering down to a more common 2.34mm (13g) at the nipple.

Using their exclusive butting process, the PSR head places extra material where it’s needed to provide longevity and strength.

As the main section of the spoke is a consistent 2.34mm diameter, the eMAX can be cut to length when required—potentially handy when the workshop is in a bind. Pillar utilises the same single butted design in a 2.0/2.34mm 13/14g version that provides a great solution for enduro, downhill and touring bikes that require greater strength without excessive weight.

The Wing PSR is a favourite for high-end road, MTB and CX/gravel applications where low weight and aerodynamics are desirable.

Made from Sandvik T302 stainless steel, they’re cold drawn into an elliptical shape; a process that’s said to add rigidity and help to prevent twisting during the build process.

Starting at 2.2mm from the head, they transition to 1.2/2.0mm through the wing portion and then back to 2.0mm so they can utilise a regular 14g nipple. These dimensions mean they’re compatible with the most popular rim and hub combinations and Pillar makes them in both straight-pull and J-bend formats.

Pillar nipples complete their range, offering everything from anodised alloy to brass in traditional or square lock.
