Trek Opens Full Online Sales Service in Australia

Sydney, NSW

Trek stepped up its direct-to-consumer online sales in Australia last month, expanding its e-commerce across the full Trekbikes.com site.

The US-based company launched an e-commerce compatibility across its website in October 2021, working in partnership with the brand’s retailers to allow customers to bikes close to them and purchase items from a local store.

“We are now expanding the range of products that customers can purchase, by introducing the ability to purchase inventory from Trek’s warehouse,” the company says in a statement.

“All bike purchases will be click and collect via our retailer network, who have the option to also facilitate a delivery service for their customers.”

Trek first ventured into direct e-commerce sales in the US in 2015, through a dealer-supported online sales program.

It says the move into full online sales in Australia comes in response to demand from customers and dealers.

“This makes Trek and its retailers competitive in an omnichannel world,” the company says, point to record levels of web traffic and an unprecedented number of shopping looking to buy online.

“E-commerce sales in current markets are growing at an incredible pace.”

It says online sales will support Trek’s dealer network. While dealers will receive a commission for all click-and-collect orders provided through their store, bikes will be shipped from Trek’s warehouse to fulfil each order and will not be taken from a dealer’s existing inventory.

Trekbikes.com will not undercut the manufacturer’s suggest retail price (MSRP) on products, which includes Trek, Bontrager, Electra and select aftermarket products.

The statement says in addition, onsite messaging helps connect customers with retailers for products not available online.
