Recall for Shimano’s PRO Vibe Stems

Shimano has issued a ‘stop riding’ and recall notice for a range of head stems sold under its PRO brand, after it was discovered they were prone to developing cracks.

Shimano Europe B.V., the owner of the PRO brand, issued the recall on 30th March for certain PRO Vibe alloy stems purchased during or after May 2020.

The affected products are identifiable by a silver ‘V’ branding on the faceplate of the stem and the forward-facing mounting bolts.

It was found corrosion can lead to cracks forming in the clamping area of the fork steerer tube.

“If the crack is not detected by the user in time, it could grow until (there is) a complete separation of the stem,” according to the recall statement.

The recall includes PRO Vibe stems that don’t include a AL7075 marking on the underside, as well as those that do have the marking and display any of the following codes on the left-hand side: FF, FI, FC, FG, FA, EF, EK, EE, ED, EH.

People in possession of the affected stems have been urged to stop using the stem, contact the dealer who sold them the product and return it to the dealer.

Dealers have been authorised to provide a replacement stem (depending on availability) or offer a refund for the recalled product.
