Initiated in 2014, the VelectriX brand was born on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland. At the time, there was a distinct lack of quality options around the $2,000 mark and anything in that price area came with next-to-no aftersales support or warranty.
From humble beginnings with a low-fuss, high quality hub-drive ebike, the brand has evolved exponentially. Examples include the popular Urban Pulse; a fully-equipped commuter bike that’s driven by a 250-watt Bafang mid-drive motor. This pairs with an integrated down tube mounted 461Wh lithium-ion battery to deliver a range of up to 70km and quick recharge times of around four hours. Available in both regular and step-through models, the Urban Pulse comes fitted out with full-length fenders, an integrated rack, front suspension and an eight speed drivetrain. Retailing for $3,299, this is a go-to within the VelectriX range.
As a small locally-based brand, VelectriX has the ability to react quickly and develop new models for emerging markets, as demonstrated by the newly released Brunswick and Newtown. Both of these feature belt drive systems; a boon for commuters thanks to the reduced drivetrain maintenance and elimination of grease marks on clothing. The Newtown retails for $2,399 and utilises a 250-watt, 36-volt Bafang rear hub motor while the Brunswick sells for $3,499 and is equipped with a mid-drive motor that delivers 65nm of torque.
If you’re looking for a more relaxed lifestyle choice, look no further than the Cruiser Pulse Step-Through. The alloy frame, mid-drive motor and integrated battery deliver classy yet simple styling, while the 1.95” wide 27.5 wheels and eight speed Microshift drivetrain makes for a versatile and comfortable ride. Available in a choice of three different frame sizes, the Cruiser Pulse ST retails for $3,199.
