Tern Announces New Australian Distribution Partner

Melbourne, Victoria

Urban e-bike specialist Tern and Melbourne-based company LEVA Group, headed by Lug+Carrie owners Ben and Dan Carr, have announced a new partnership for the distribution of Tern bicycles to independent bicycle dealers across Australia.

LEVA Group will have Tern bicycles and accessories available from 1st March 2023, and will take over all service and support responsibilities for Tern-branded products in the Australian market.

LEVA Group was established by the brothers in 2019 for importing and distributing fleet options for commercial clients and has been dealing with Tern during that time.

Tern e-bikes have been at the heart of the Lug+Carrie service, which was also launched by Ben and Dan in 2019 and has grown into one the world’s largest e-cargo bike subscription businesses.

It has been supplying e-cargo bikes through subscriptions to individuals and families, as well as commercial customers looking for fleet solutions.

Tern team caption Josh Hon said: “We’ve worked with Dan and Ben for several years now and it’s been great watching them execute on ambitious plans, even through pandemic lockdown.

“They’ve done some excellent brand-building and marketing, including a campaign last year with Bosch and Rapha. But most importantly, they’re totally aligned with us on the importance of good and fast service and happy customers.

“We’re really excited to have them bring their expertise and passion for Tern into our dealer network in Australia.”

Ben said he and his brother are “big believers in Tern’s mission to get people out of cars and onto bikes.

“With Lug+Carrie, we’ve seen how life-changing cargo bikes can be for so many families. Now, we have the opportunity to help even more people make that transition and we get to do it by partnering with some amazing independent dealers.”

Dan said they strongly believe in the quality, performance and accessibility of Tern’s bikes, including their frame geometry and overall ergonomics and adjustability to comfortably accommodate a wide range of rider shapes and sizes.

“That’s one of the reasons we really love working with Tern. They’re a game-changing product for that reason,” he said.

“They are easily shareable among members of a family. Their new product, the NBD, has one of the lowest step-over points for an e-bike and all their models have high accessibility. It’s not just a tilting handlebar, it adjusts to be comfortable for each member of the family to ride.

“We see day in and day out how that brings new people to cycling by providing a bike that works for many body types.”

The Taiwan-based last year recorded a 32% growth in revenue in 2022, at a time when many parts of the bike industry were starting to contract, and bolstered its executive leadership with a number of appointments.

It has offices, service centres and partners in more than 40 countries throughout the world.
